Carnival Radiance was previously named Carnival Victory, but during a major transformation in Cadiz, Spain in 2021, the ship became completely new. The new-look vessel is part of the Sunshine class and from December 13, 2021, is sailing from the Long Beach Cruise Terminal in California. Jubilee has a gross tonnage of 183,521 GT and can accommodate 5,374 passengers at double-capacity. This all changed with the debut of Mardi Gras, which was the flagship vessel of the Excel Class. The brand-new class would be home to Carnival Cruise Line’s most advanced cruise ships in the company’s history. Mardi Gras was built to be around 36% bigger than anything Carnival Cruise Line had built before. I knew there was a reason I was drawn to the Center Stage Bar on Carnival Jubilee, Carnival Cruise Line's newest ship and the third in the Excel Class. The bar — along with several other dining venues and the onboard shops — wasn't open during my two-night sailing prior to the ship's first voyage with paying passengers.
This bar is just steps from the pool, whose ocean view and atmosphere mingles with the bar's own, for a bit of that old-time Cuban resort flavor. Carnival Firenze will join the fleet in spring 2024 after being transferred from sister brand Costa Cruise Lines. The ship will offer a variety of cruises year-round, with sailings set for popular destinations in Baja, California and the Mexican Riviera. This ship sailed under the name Costa Firenze with Costa and is also a Vista Class ship and sister to the Costa Venezia which has already joined the Carnival fleet. As of December 4, 2023, the newest Carnival cruise ship is the Carnival Jubilee. The second ship in the Excel-class and fully powered by Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) at 183,521 gross tons, the new vessel is operating from Port Canaveral, Florida, from December 23, 2023.
To help meet demand, Carnival Cruise Line transferred newer vessels from European sister brand Costa Cruises. With an Italian-flair Carnival Venezia joined Carnival’s fleet in 2023 and Carnival Firenze will debut in the spring of 2024 for Carnival Cruise Line. One of the most exciting features of the Excel Class of ships was the unveiling of Bolt - the first rollercoaster at sea. While megaships are standard for the cruising industry today, Carnival Cruise Line only built its first giant cruise ships starting with Mardi Gras in 2021. In fact, the cruise line had years of stagnant ship design and innovation.
This is especially true if you have a group that wants to eat together but has differing opinions about which casual venues each person wants to hit. It can be a pain to have to venture to a different area of the ship to grab food when your friends and family are looking at other dining options closer to the pool. On most vessels, the burger counter is positioned on the Lido Deck, adjacent to the BlueIguana Cantina, which serves tacos and burritos. On Mardi Gras, Carnival Celebration and Carnival Jubilee, though, it's one deck above. It's a minor gripe, but it feels like you're going out of your way to trek up a deck to grab a burger. I stayed in an Ocean Suite (a type of mini-suite), and I was thoroughly impressed by the amount of storage space, which would have been more than adequate for the four people my room could accommodate.
